THE BOOK CLUB: A STORY OF SISTERHOOD
CHALLENGING YET POWERFUL RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN EIGHT AFRICAN-AMERICAN WOMEN
Valerie McAllister’s latest novel, The Book Club, tells a story of sisterhood. Eight seemingly ordinary African-American women join a book club, with the intent to socialize and discuss books while drinking wine. However, when one of the women is attacked by her drug-dealing, younger boyfriend, it’s the start of a journey of self-discovery for each of the women.
As Jasmine, the book’s narrator, sheds light on the women’s secrets, that could potentially destroy them, each woman finds undiscovered strength and courage by reaching out to each other. They find the power to move on, sometimes in the most unlikely of people. They learn to trust themselves and others, and to rely on their own inner strength.
Women all over the world will be able to relate to the characters Valerie McAllister crafts with such attention for detail in this riveting novel. The Book Club is the first in a series, and the sequel will release in a few months.
The Book Club has received several glowing reviews:
